Michael Flanagan was a highly regarded narrative  painter who was fascinated by the railroad. He published a book, Stations: An Imagined Journey,  that chronicles the remembrances of a Virginia farmer who family life was shaped by the building of the railroad. This work is part of that series. Flanagan also worked as a book designer with Jacqueline Onassis who was his friend and mentor.
