Matias Cuevas (born 1980) in Mendoza, Argentina. After completing his education in Argentina, he received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he was awarded a scholarship, MFA Fellowship Award and the SAIC Excellence in Leadership Award. Cuevas' work consists of staining and setting fire to nylon carpet using traditional paint-thinners and acrylic paint, at the same time embracing the tradition of painting. His work has been exhibited at the El Museo del Barrio, Lehmann Maupin Gallery in New York and The Green Gallery in Milwaukee. This work was purchased from the Sculpture Center's annual Lucky Draw in 2015. In the past year Cuevas has shown at Sperone Westwater Gallery, New York, Tilleard Projects, New York and Sine Projects, Brooklyn.
